Mrs. Belmonte & Mrs. Hanewich - GATE Enrichment

This program will enable a small group of advanced mathematics students in the sixth grade to partner with advanced math students at King Philip High School and utilize new technologies to solve non-routine, engaging and challenging mathematical thinking problems. Mrs. Belmonte indicates that “the main goal of this project is for students to identify with mathematicians as modern practitioners. By studying famous problems and the mathematicians that solved them, they will realize that math discoveries are the result of intellect, hard work, experimentation, and persistence.” The funding provided by WEST will enable the purchase of graphing calculators that will allow students to move away from paper-pencil tasks and experiment with the collection of data and interpretation with the calculators.
