Mrs. Belmonte - GATE

The main goal of this project is to integrate English Language Arts (ELA) and Science in an exciting and innovative way for students in Grades 3-6. The grant will purchase a collection of picture books selected for their colorful and detailed illustrations which capture the interest of students while providing a real life context for the exploration of scientific concepts. Once engaged in the topic, the students will work through the inquiry-based design of the book series to explore, explain and experiment the subject in areas of physical science, life science and Earth and Space.

By combining the appeal of children’s picture books with the excitement of scientific investigation and exploration through the enquiry based method, the approach will complement existing curriculum goals and provide a rewarding challenge to those with a strong interest in science and who are visual learners. The program will be made available through the GATE/ Enrichment Department for collaborative projects with classroom teachers in Grades 3-6.
