2010 WEST Ball Drop - Sunny with a Chance of Golf Balls

It's raining golf balls!!!

Wrentham Day 2010 turned out to be a perfect September day. The sun shone in a gloriously blue sky and the only cloud was caused by a hail of golf balls raining down on to the town common from the top of the ladder of the Wrentham Fire Truck at 3pm.

A total of 497 golf balls were dropped as part of this year’s fundraiser organized by the Wrentham Elementary Schools Trust, Inc. (WEST). Many turned up to witness as Wrentham Firemen hoisted the bucket up against the back drop of a clear sky before dropping them on the common below. The watching crowd included US Senator Scott Brown and Representive Richard Ross both of whom had purchased a ball earlier in the hope that theirs would be the lucky ball.

Once the balls had settled the winner, the ball that had landed closest to the flag, was declared by Police Chief James Anderson as being number 103. The owner of the ball was Julie Mignacca who won the first prize of $1,000.  Full Press Release
