Eyes on Owls 2026
Grade 5
Introduction
Observe live birds and their physical adaptations
Grant Details
The Roderick School hosted the program “Eyes on Owls,” an in school enrichment opportunity presented by naturalist, Marsha Wilson. This federally and state approved program will enhance the Grade 3-5 Life Science Curriculum, specifically the study of animals. It will provide all fifth grade students with an experience to observe live birds and their physical adaptations.

Highlights
Eyes on Owls strongly complemented our 5th grade science curriculum by bringing key concepts to life through an engaging and interactive experience. Students deepened their understanding of predator-prey relationships, food webs, physical adaptations, and animal behaviors by listening to information presented about five different owls and observing the birds up close.
The program also reinforced how climate and environment influence animal characteristics and survival. Students were highly engaged throughout the presentation and benefited from numerous opportunities to ask questions and interact directly with the presenters and owls. This hands-on learning experience enriched classroom instruction and created meaningful connections to our science standards in a memorable and exciting way.
